This site was launched in February 2024 to provide Amityville residents with an overview of the serious issues facing the Amityville UFSD.

In April, it pivoted to the campaign page of Wendy Canestro, Caroline Fanning, & Megan Messmann, 3 parents determined to make a change.
Post-Election Letter
May 26, 2024

Greetings Amityville Residents & Friends,
It’s been less than a week since the election, but already it feels like a lifetime ago. First and foremost, we want to thank everyone who voted for us. A lot can happen during a campaign, but at the end of the day, it all boils down to the voters in the voting booth. We are deeply moved by both the high voter turnout and the wide margin of victory. Amityville gave a clear endorsement to our platform of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility on Tuesday, and as we shift from campaign mode into our new roles as trustees, we pledge to keep that platform front and center.
We also want to thank everyone who worked on and supported our campaign. From the donors, to the canvassers, to the graphic designers, to the filmmaker, we had many people—more than we will ever know—sharing our load and carrying us to the finish line. Words cannot express the depth of our gratitude.
Of course, we recognize that not everyone voted for us. To those voters, we simply pledge to embrace our new roles with professionalism, and to represent all the kids and taxpayers of Amityville with equal measure. We hope that as the new school year unfolds, we will earn your confidence, too.
Wendy was sworn in on election night, having run for a vacant seat. Megan and Caroline will be sworn in after July 1. The transition from candidate to trustee means changing our channels of communication. Instead of social media, this email list, and private events, we will be available through district email (available here) and at district events. We will keep the Amityville School Voters website live, but this will be the last of the weekly emails. Hard to believe, but it’s time for the next phase. We thank you for reading, we hope you remain engaged, and we look forward to seeing you out and about in the district very, very soon.

Sincerely yours,
—Caroline Fanning, Megan Messmann, & Wendy Canestro
